Cofields Sangiovese (Rutherglen) 2018

Cofields Sangiovese (Rutherglen) 2018

Medium bodied wine with lifted cherry, strawberry and rhubarb flavours. Finishes with subtle oak and firm savoury tannins.

Wine details.

This classic Italian variety, responsible for the famous wines of Chianti, has also found a very happy home in North East Victoria.

We source the fruit from our own Quartz Vein vineyard at Wahgunyah.

The grapes were sourced from our cellar door block next to the winery and are of the Brunello clone which imparts Amorello cherry flavours in the wine.

A short time in both American and French small oak barrels has resulted in a wine showing subtle oak and typical Sangiovese flavours.

Tasting Notes:

  • Colour

    Cranberry red

  • Aroma

Unmistakably Sangiovese, with spicy red sour cherry fruit.

  • Palate

A medium to full bodied wine showing raspberry, cherry and spice flavours with a hint of rhubarb. Fine savoury tannins with a long finish.

Wine making notes:

A wine to enjoy now and over the coming two to three years. Sangiovese is one of the most versatile food matching wines with tomato based pasta, pizza and veal.
